The Net Comes Of Age: Are You Coming Along?
"I used to think that cyberspace was fifty years away. What I thought was fifty years away, was only
ten years away. And what I thought was ten years away... it was already here. I just wasn't aware of it
yet."
-Bruce Sterling
Depending on where you get your information, the Internet has been around in some way, shape or form
for 30-plus years. But for most of us, and certainly for business, the Internet didn't take off until
the mid-nineties with the introduction of the first web browsers. The pre-cursor to today's Internet
Explorers and Firefoxes made the Net user-friendly and opened it up to the masses.
That was nearly a decade and a half ago, and oh golly how things have changed. Most of us can hardly
remember how we used to get by without always-on, always-available Internet access. But as far as things
have come, the Internet is just reaching its adolescence. It's still got some growing up to do, but we're
beginning to get a glimpse at what all this technology is going to do for us when it really comes of
age.
We're entering the world of full voice and video conferencing and anytime-anywhere access via cell phone,
laptop, desktop and future devices not yet invented. It's a world where surgeons are doing surgery on
patients who are thousands of miles away and your kids are playing games with kids in Thailand.
In the automotive retail industry we'll soon see a day when EVERY customer does at least part of their
car shopping online - and many will conduct the whole transaction, from test drive to financing to
signing the papers, online. It's turning the entire industry upside down. Crazy things seem normal
(selling a car to someone five states away) and normal things seem crazy (a customer who hasn't done
any online research).
It's safe to say that this "Net Thing" isn't a fad. And it's safe to say if you're not embracing
everything the Net has to offer, you're going to fall behind the dealerships that are. It's not a
matter of IF you're going to go digital, it's simply a matter of WHEN - assuming you want to survive,
that is.
The best news is that there's still time to gain an early-mover advantage. Few industries have been
slower to adapt their business model to the web than the automotive retail industry. This has left the
door wide open and the dealerships that are charging through that door are reaping all the rewards.
There's nothing stopping you from getting a significant piece of this action… assuming that you're
willing to embrace the precocious adolescent that is the Internet and grow up right along with it.

Dealer Impact Drives H&H Chevy To The Top Of Google
Case Study
Client: H&H Chevrolet - Omaha, Nebraska
The first step to success in today's always-online world is ensuring that your customers find you before
they find your competition. And that means one thing - ranking at or near the top in the major search
engines. And that's exactly what Dealer Impact was able to do for H&H Chevrolet in Omaha.
Before beginning work with Dealer Impact, HHChevy.com had no pages listed in the "top 30" rankings of
any major search engines, based on a selected list of popular keyword phrases regarding used or new
cars in Omaha or Nebraska. Obviously, this was a problem.
So, H&H Chevy came to Dealer Impact for a solution and through a variety of strategies and tactics, H&H
is now ranked #1 on Google in a variety of search terms and counts 25 other #1 rankings for terms on
Yahoo!, MSN, Ask, Google.
Those dramatic changes mean more prospects, more customers and ultimately more sales for H&H
Chevrolet.
