Ryan,

You are absolutely right-- sites built with images alone are just as invisible as websites built completely in Flash, and yourmercedes.com is a great example of such a site. Yes, this site was built by Dealer Impact, but as you know from working in the website arena, the site owners will always have the final say in the design of the website, as well as the marketing dollars they wish to spend. Unfortunately, these particular site owners did not choose to purchase the Ideal system, nor have they chosen to purchase advanced SEO. However, if they do chose to purchase any advanced SEO from Dealer Impact, it will be simple to add proper tags and text boxes to this site due to the technology that was used, unlike a site built entirely in Flash.

Any website developer is capable of producing a site that is invisible to the search engines - I never meant to say that Dealer Impact is immune. But as a representative of Dealer Impact's Search Enine Marketing team, I can say that when given the opportunity to work on a site, we know our stuff. Not every one of our hundreds of car dealer clients has decided to spend the money to get up to speed with the Ideal system, or even purchased any Advanced SEO. To some site owners, a site with a pretty homepage is all they are after. But when search engine visibility is an issue, Dealer Impact sites have the potential to rank, especially sites utilizing the Dealer Impact Ideal System, and 100% Flash sites almost always do not.

Jamie Wilson
Dealer Impact Search Engine Marketing

Jamie,

Thank you for the track back. You are spot on with this post. I am a fan of Dealer Impact because of the innovative marketing services you provide, but I am inclined to confront you with a concern I have about this post.

Got to http://yourmercedes.com/. While this is not a Flash site, it is completely invisible to search engines. The reason why is because it is 99.9% images. Ironically, this site was done by Dealer Impact.

While sites done in Flash 100% are invisible to the engines, sites done in 100% images can have the same problem unless of course the images and page files are named properly. In the case of this site, that was not done.

So, to give Flash the justice it deserves. It's not Flash that is the problem, it is how it used, as is the case with any website development platform.

-Ryan
